NACC's monthly Lunch with a Leader series highlights one local Leader in a friendly, sit-down atmosphere. Sit side-by-side community leaders and fellow chamber members around a king's table as we learn about the professional and personal journey of our leaders over a plated meal. Registration is required as we are unable to accommodate walk-ins with limited seating.

THIS MONTH'S LEADER

John Price 
Superintendent, Indian Prairie School District

John Price is a career educator who has led in some of the most challenging environments and has been able to lead to dramatically improved performance for children. As a building principal, John led Audubon Elementary School, and PreK-8 school with over 500 students to achieve the highest gains on ISAT in the City of Chicago. Due to the success of the school during John’s tenure, the school was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence, and John was selected to serve on the Mayor’s educational advisory team and later promoted to a district leadership position.

As a district leader, or Network Chief, in Chicago Public Schools, John led a network of 35 elementary schools on the southside of Chicago. During his time as Chief the network achieved the second highest growth for Kindergarten students, as measured by DIBELS, in the city. Improving early elementary achievement has been a focus in his leadership roles throughout his career.

As the Superintendent in North Chicago since 2017, a PreK - 12 school district of approximately 3,400 students, John and his team created an environment that has led to outstanding results. The high school graduation rate increased from 56% to 86%, led by a Freshman On Track rate that reached 94%. Teacher retention increased from 60% annual retention to over 80%, with a 90% retention rate for teachers rated Excellent by principals. Elementary achievement, as measured by NWEA MAP improved dramatically through ambitious goals, a completed revamped curriculum, and constant focus on instructional improvements.

As superintendent in North Chicago John led the construction of two new school buildings, both funded primarily through grant dollars. In addition, philanthropic giving to the district increased steadily, being awarded millions of dollars in external grants through governmental and private philanthropic sources.

John joined the Indian Prairie School District in 2026 as their superintendent. As the incoming superintendent, Price is committed to continuing the legacy of excellence that has made Indian Prairie a premier school district in the state. This year the district will write a new strategic plan to focus the school system’s efforts on student learning over the next five years.
